Your Update on What's Happening at the King County Council

As the days grow colder and shorter and we all spend more time inside, it has become more difficult for us to practice social distancing when going about our daily routine. Unfortunately, King County is also seeing a spike in new COVID-19 cases, with 532 new cases reported today.

As the holidays approach, remember the risks associated with coming into close contact with others, especially those in high-risk categories. Please take precautions when gathering with your loved ones—for your health and for theirs.

Funding for Flood Protection on Issaquah Creek

Councilmember Dunn visits residents affected by the February 2020 flooding

In February of this year, King County experienced some of the most severe flooding we’ve seen in decades. Extensive flooding in the Issaquah Creek Basin resulted in the closure of Issaquah-Hobart Road and other roadways, the flooding of homes and businesses, and multiple landslides.

In order to help prepare for more severe flooding occurrences in the future, I worked to provide an amendment in the Flood Control District’s 2021 Budget to address flood risk on Issaquah Creek. My amendment commissions a report that studies Issaquah Creek flood risks and recommends strategies that the Flood Control District can use reduce those risks. I’m glad to support continued investments in protecting people and property in King County from the destruction caused by flooding. 

Dunn Presents VSO Grant to American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19

Earlier this week, I presented a VSO Grant check for $2,500 to the American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 in Renton. This funding will support the Hitching Rails Center & Retreat, which provides equine therapy to veterans with PTSD. I’m glad to be able to support their mission to help military families heal and connect.

Project CARE: How to Recreate Responsibly

Fresh air and exercise are great for your immune system as well as your mental health, so make some time to get outside and recreate responsibly! On this episode of Project CARE, I meet with King County Parks Director Warren Jimenez who shares some ways we can reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission while enjoying the great outdoors.
