Read Our Vote-By-Mail Op-Ed in the Washington Post

WaPo_Opinion

In today’s Washington Post Opinion (note: subscriptions are required after viewing the first free article), King County Elections Director Julie Wise and I share steps that officials, the media and voters across our nation can take to make sure that vote-by-mail delivers results everyone can trust.

One of the primary recommendations in our op-ed is to vote early. With that in mind, King County Elections reports that ballots were mailed yesterday and voters will see their ballot in the next day or two but everyone should have received ballots by Monday, October 19. If you haven’t seen your ballot by then, call King County Elections at (206) 296-VOTE (8683) or visit the King County Elections website.

Once you’ve voted, track your ballot. The intelligent mail barcode added to return envelopes for this election lets voters whose ballots are in the USPS system track it at more steps in the mailing process.

Taking the Next Step to Achieve Real, Tangible Actions to House People Experiencing Homelessness in King County

This week, the King County Council voted to make unprecedented investments to move people experiencing homelessness off the streets and into permanent supportive housing. I was proud to co-sponsor the Health through Housing proposal, which will raise a 0.1% sales tax with a goal to house approximately 2,000 King County residents who are experiencing or at risk of chronic homelessness. This funding is a critical step towards addressing our region’s homelessness crisis and making sure every King County resident has a safe place to call home.

Today is the Last Day to Complete the Census

Because of a US Supreme Court decision earlier this week, King County residents have just hours left to complete the 2020 Census. The census count brings vital services and investments into our communities, like affordable housing, public transit, health care & schools.

COVID-19 Is on the Rise in King County

Cases of COVID-19 are on the rise again in King County after two months of decline. As the school year and fall progresses - a time when COVID-19 is expected to spread more readily - it’s time to renew our commitment to protect ourselves, loved ones and neighbors. Remember, to stay healthy and prevent spreading COVID-19, limit close contact with others outside your home, avoid crowded and poorly-ventilated spaces, wear your mask and keep your distance!
