We are excited to share our first digital annual report that highlights the stories of individuals and families impacted by VSHSL. We are proud of our 150+ partners in 2019 and their dedication and commitment to serving King County’s veterans, seniors and resilient communities.
Meet the people impacted by the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy in 2019.
Our King County Veterans Program, in partnership with the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA Puget Sound Health Care System) is hosting listening sessions on diversity, equity and inclusion in veterans service systems. The listening sessions seek to learn and hear from veteran constituents (partners, employees and clients) to identify systemic bias and discrimination in veterans services in King County.
Veteran Listening Sessions: Addressing Systemic Racism with Veteran Systems
- Tuesday, October 27 | 10:30am – 12:00pm

VSHSL Advisory Board December board meeting
At its September meeting, the VSHSL Advisory Board nominated and elected the board chair and vice-chairs. Congratulations to Robert White, our new VSHSL Advisory Board Chair, and to Patrice Thorell and Heidi Shepherd on their second year serving as vice-chairs for the Seniors Committee and Vulnerable Populations Committee respectively.
Are you interested in serving on the VSHSL Advisory Board? The VSHSL Advisory Board currently has seven vacancies. Board members are nominated by nominating entities and then apply to fill vacancies.
The VSHSL Advisory Board oversees the distribution of VSHSL proceeds and advises King County on matters that uniquely affect each of the VSHSL’s priority populations. The board consists of three committees that represent a VSHSL priority population: Veterans, Seniors and Vulnerable Populations.

The King County Housing Repair Program, partially funded by VSHSL, provides funding for housing repair services to low, moderate-income homeowners and special needs renters within King County. VSHSL funding helps the program ensure more veterans’ and seniors’ homes safe and accessible.

Our partner, HealthierHere, funded through the Countywide Information and Referral VSHSL strategy, will be creating a Community Information Exchange (CIE) in partnership with Crisis Connections and WAServes. The CIE will provide centralized, technology-based information and referral services that can help connect individuals with community-based services that provide housing, financial, health and social stability supports. VSHSL-funded providers are invited to attend an introduction session to the CIE planning process. This introduction will provide an opportunity to provide input and learn about the process of developing a new CIE. Providers may attend either of the available sessions and will then be invited to join monthly Network Partner Workgroup meetings to participate in the design and implementation of the regional CIE.
Introduction sessions:
