On Monday, as a part of the announcement that REI sold its newly completed corporate campus in Bellevue’s Spring District neighborhood to Facebook, we also learned that each company will contribute $1 million for improvements on the Eastrail! Built on a historic railroad line, the Eastrail runs 42 miles on the east side of Lake Washington, from Renton to Snohomish County.
The COVID-19 pandemic has given us an even deeper appreciation for how much we rely on readily accessible open spaces and trails for our physical, social and emotional well-being. This exciting investment of $2 million, in partnership with the newly-formed Eastrail Partners, represents REI delivering on its ongoing commitment and Facebook joining the journey to expand our amazing regional trail system.
With government, community and business support, we are building momentum to complete a world-class King County Parks Regional Trail System that will make lifelong access to the outdoors a reality for everyone across King County.
