A new funding opportunity is available to provide supports to senior kinship caregivers who are 55 and older living in King County to help them be successful in their roles.
The Kinship Care Supports strategy seeks to provide supports through one or more of the following three primary services: kinship mentoring, flexible funding, and/or training to increase kinship caregivers’ ability to maintain good health and well-being while providing for the children in their care.

We are happy to announce the return of the Geriatric Regional Assessment Team, known in the community as GRAT, three years after the original program closed. With funding from both the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) and the MIDD Behavioral Health Sales Tax, our partner Sound Generations has built a team of geriatric behavioral health and aging experts who offer early behavioral or social service intervention to isolated older adults (age 55 and older) who are at risk for crisis. GRAT provides outreach, engagement, comprehensive behavioral, cognitive, or social assessments and short-term supports to help the individual stabilize. The team then uses their expertise to help the older adult get connected to essential community resources.

On Friday, August 28th from 10 am – 12 pm a virtual community planning session will be held to gather community input and feedback on the upcoming funding opportunity: Caregiver Respite for Caregivers of Persons with Disabilities. This strategy will fund programs that provide respite supports to caregivers of persons with disabilities. While supportive and mutually beneficial, relationships can cause stress for the parents, friends, or family members providing care and for the individual receiving care. Programming to support caregivers is important for the whole unit to maintain selfcare, personal health and to sustain caregiver’s essential role for the loved ones for whom they provide care.
