New Safety Measures and Eviction Moratorium Extension Announced

Governor Inslee announces new safety measures

Governor Inslee on Thursday announced new restrictions for restaurants, bars, fitness centers and weddings and funerals as COVID-19 continues to surge in Washington state and beyond.

The new restrictions, set to take effect in a week (except wedding and funeral restrictions), roll back some earlier allowances in an effort to limit interaction between members of different households and potential exposure to infected individuals. The state also expanded its mask mandate to include common areas, such as elevators, hallways, lobbies and similar areas. Governor Inslee extends eviction moratorium

Additionally on Thursday, Inslee said the eviction moratorium would be extended through October 15 (it has been set to expire August 1). Federal data showed almost 250,000 renters in Washington state were unable to pay rent in June. Over 150,000 of them live in the Seattle, Bellevue, and Tacoma metro area. The eviction moratorium is a vital tool in preventing an unprecedented wave of homelessness across the State and here in King County. Details on the extension will be released in the coming days. Building a countywide transit measure for the future

This week, I joined my King County colleagues to voice support for a Seattle transit funding measure that will maintain critical service for people in and commuting to Seattle. In our letter, we urged Seattle to leave open the possibility of joining a larger countywide transit measure in the coming years.

As we have all learned during the last few months, our region’s public transit system is critical for many essential workers and first responders and has helped people throughout King County get to essential services, including groceries and medical treatment. I will continue to support transit service on the Eastside and throughout the county and am committed to rebuilding our system as we recover from the pandemic.
