Recreate Responsibly

The Fourth of July weekend is almost here and so are new indications that COVID-19 is gaining ground in King County. This week’s Public Health - Seattle & King County’s Key Indicators of COVID-19 Recovery data dashboard reveals the following troubling trends in King County's fight against the disease:

  • total numbers of cases are trending upwards in King County,
  • the reproduction rate, or the spread of coronavirus in our community, has risen above the target set by Washington state, and
  • testing levels are below goals established to support an effective and safe recovery.

Public Health Insider tells the story in more detail. As King County’s Phase 2 reopening progresses we need to take even more precautions to fight the disease’s spread. If not, our hard won work to re-open could suffer a setback.

Despite these challenges, there are many ways to get outside to enjoy the long weekend’s nice weather while reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19. The Recreate Responsibly Coalition offers several tips about how to stay safe during the pandemic.

With cases rising and the Fourth of July almost here, remember to #MaskUpWA, keep your distance from others and #RecreateResponsibly.

Gov. Inslee announces new mask requirements to reduce spread of COVID-19

Gov. Jay Inslee on Thursday announced that, starting Tuesday, July 7, all businesses in Washington will not be allowed to serve customers who aren’t wearing face coverings. The decision comes as counties across the state have seen COVID-19 infections rising once more, including in King County. In particular, the rate of transmission has risen significantly in the last month as more people interact with each other.

Read more about Inslee’s orders on face coverings at the Washington State Coronavirus Response page here.
