Black Lives Matter.
We believe that Black Lives Matter, on and off the trail. Making sure that everyone - including and especially Black people - has the right to safety on trails and life free from injustices like police brutality is part of the Coalition’s commitment to equity, mobility, and health. As a country and as a region, we need to do better, and we join you in grieving the recent senseless deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and Black Americans across the country and Puget Sound.
As important as it is to speak out, a statement is not enough. As a next step for accountability to racial equity within the Coalition, we will discuss and evaluate the 2020-2021 Work Plan to make sure each goal, objective, and measurement for our work on trails together moves us towards dismantling systemic racism.
We also commit to ongoing outreach, partnership, and information-sharing. Would you like to share how your community is organizing to support people of color, including Black, Indigenous, communities of color, or Immigrant communities at the June 18 Coalition meeting? Please connect with Claire (claire@leaflinetrails.org).
As more organizations and individuals join the call to end violence and injustice against Black people and communities of color, we want to share resources to educate, inform, and inspire action:
You can add the June 18 meeting to your calendar. Thank you for supporting trails for all.
