Free Food This Friday at Bellevue College

This week Food Lifeline, a non-profit organization that supplies food to different food banks across Western Washington, will be distributing food boxes to three locations across King County, including on Friday afternoon (2pm - 5pm), May 22 at Bellevue College (3000 Landerholm Circle S.E. Bellevue, 98007 - main entrance off 148th St.).

The food boxes contain 22-25 lbs of shelf-stable food items like canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, non-meat protein items, and bread and grains. Drive-up no-touch, as well as walk-up, food box distribution will be available.

Food Lifeline emphasizes that anyone can have access to this food. It is a confidential distribution, so there will be no paperwork or qualification needed. However Food Lifeline will ask for zip codes to track its efforts.

For more information about Food Lifeline and the free food boxes being offered this week, read more at Food Lifeline's event page >>>

Governor Inslee announces guidelines for non-emergency medical, dental procedures to resume

Gov. Jay Inslee on Monday announced that dentists, family practitioners and other health care services for non-emergency care could resume under new guidelines to protect against the spread of COVID-19.

Health care providers must have adequate supplies of personal protective equipment for their staffs, must use social distancing policies – such as limiting access to waiting rooms – and screen visitors and patients for symptoms of the virus.

Not all providers will be able to open up fully right away, so check with your provider to find out when and how you can begin scheduling non-urgent appointments.

Masks or not - viruses don't discriminate

The new King County Health Officer Directive that strongly urges individuals at indoor or confined outdoor public settings to use face coverings over their nose and mouth began yesterday.

Remember COVID-19 does not discriminate, but people wearing face coverings can be subject to additional stigma and discrimination. Public Health - Seattle & King County has put together several anti-discrimination resources. The conclusion of this Public Health Insider blog post reminds us that "discrimination, harassment, racial profiling, violence, and other hate crimes for wearing or not wearing a face covering is against the law."

Everyone deserves to feel safe. Full stop. Please join me in standing with our neighbors across King County to create a more tolerant and welcoming community.

Stay home and spread the word!

Remember right now, physical distancing is the most important thing we can do to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Please forward this email widely and invite others to sign-up to my email updates to receive important and timely information for District 6 constituents.

Sincerely,
