The King County Assessment and Recovery Center in the Eastgate area of Bellevue is Complete
Our collective efforts are having postive effect at slowing the spread of COVID-19, even though we continue to receive daily reports of serious infections and deaths. Unfortunately, we know that letting up on social distancing and other public health activities too quickly could lead to a second wave of COVID-19 cases. I’m glad that King County has worked so hard to be prepared, by setting up locations for people to await test results and to recover from illness without overburdening our hospital system.
On Saturday, I visited the recently-completed King County Assessment and Recovery Center in the Eastgate area of Bellevue. This facility is one of several assessment and recovery centers that King County has planned and built in a matter of weeks. If cases of COVID-19 surge, it can supplement hospital beds, and serve people who are unable to recover from COVID-19 at their own home (e.g., if they live with someone in a high risk category or if they are experiencing homelessness).

It has capacity for 140-150 individuals across two large tents. It is located on a fully contained site and will be secured with 24/7 staffing.
The Assessment and Recovery Center is ready to serve people, but it is not open yet. It will remain on standby status until a need arises. I’m appreciative of all the hard work and thoughtful preparation by King County employees that has gone into developing the facility.
