K4C Elected Official Work Session - DATE CHANGE!
With the extension of Gov. Inslee's direction to stay home through May 4 to limit the spread of the coronavirus, Executive Constantine rescheduled the work session planned for April 24 to June 3. We are planning for a virtual meeting, but will remain nimble and ready to meet in person if it is responsible to do so. All elected officials are welcome to join, whether you are a member of the K4C or not.
At the work session, we will provide updates and affirm countywide emissions targets and priority actions in King County's 2020 Strategic Climate Action Plan that align with K4C priorities. We will also collaborate on the Climate Action Toolkit currently in development. This toolkit will support all cities in their work to develop climate plans and actions for their jurisdictions.
On April 24, King County staff will present an online "K4C 101" session for newly elected officials, and any elected official who wants to learn more about the K4C. We will review the history and milestones of the K4C and its governance, and will highlight the pathways, policies and investments in the Joint Action Commitments.
Please RSVP to Matt Kuharic (Matt.Kuharic@kingcounty.gov) if you are able to join either the April 24 or June 3 events. Please note that these events are for elected officials and accompanying staff only.

Climate Action Toolkit
King County is developing a Toolkit for use by cities to accelerate our existing carbon emission reductions at the community scale and within local government operations. This toolkit will be shaped within the framework of the updated King County Cities Climate Collaboration Joint Commitments and King County’s 2020 Strategic Climate Action Plan.
The toolkit will provide guidance on a mix of actionable and practical strategies that fit cities with different types of land use, population, energy supply, and transportation patterns. The recommendations of the toolkit will acknowledge the variety in local governments, not only size, but also stage of planning and amount of staff and financial capacity with which to undertake climate planning.
King County is hosting two online stakeholder workshops:
- Thursday May 7th 10 am - 11:30 am Register
- Tuesday May 12th 1:30 pm - 3 pm Register
Note the workshops will be identical; we have scheduled two to increase participation opportunities. We will have a public input site on kingcounty.gov/climate soon. Please contact Rachel Brombaugh if you have any questions or suggestions.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to the cities of Issaquah and Shoreline on your adoption of the Joint Action Commitments! If your city hasn't approved the updated Joint Commitments, please reach out to Rachel Brombaugh (Rachel.Brombaugh@kingcounty.gov) if you would like materials that explain the updates, or would like to schedule a presentation to your council.
