Your Update on What's Happening at the King County Council  

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

As the COVID-19 crisis progresses, it is hard not to feel isolated, and we all wish we could do more to contribute to the response. That is why last week I worked to get final Council approval of legislation creating Project CARE (COVID-19 ACTION and RESPONSE ENLISTMENT). To be launched in the coming weeks, Project CARE will be a one-stop shop for the broader community to connect with local needs and volunteer opportunities.

Leading up to the official launch of Project CARE, I will be making a series of "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" videos that walk through small ways you can help your family and your community through home projects, donations, and engagement with your community. I am pleased to put out the first two videos in this series below.  I hope you find them helpful, engaging, and a bright spot in your day.  

As we continue to experience challenges in the coming weeks, my hope is that Project CARE and the Stay Home, Stay Healthy videos will harness the generosity, energy, and talent of our region and unify our communities as we fight COVID-19 together.

Supporting your community by making vegetable starts

A lot of people don't know that I love to garden. I thought it would be fun—and helpful—to make a quick video to show folks how to make their own seed starters. With a little time and effort, you could be growing your own vegetables at home!

If you’re at all interested in trying it, now is the perfect time. Starting a vegetable garden isn't only a good way to stay busy during a “stay at home” order—it’s also a good way to contribute to your community.

Helping the food supply through raised bed gardening

Following up on my first "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" video on how to make your own seed starts, I want to show how you can help our food supply through raised bed gardening.
