Dear Community Partners,
As our region works together to protect public health during the COVID-19 outbreak, it is more important than ever for local governments to be providing timely, accurate information. As our public health experts implement emergency response strategies, impacted communities need to be informed of decisions and have opportunities to have questions answered.
To this end, yesterday during our King County Council meeting, I amended the emergency COVID-19 budget appropriation to provide $1 million to the King County Office of Equity and Social Justice for community engagement. That office is now developing the funding plan - which will likely include partnering with local community and cultural-based organizations to get information to their members as effectively as possible.
My hope is that this infusion of funds will allow our community members, including those who do not speak English as a first language, to stay engaged and connected to the County decision-making during this public health emergency so we all can stay as safe and healthy as possible.
When I have more information about this process and how community organizations can partner with the County, I’ll let you know.
Sincerely,
Councilmember Dave Upthegrove King County Council – District 5 Dave.Upthegrove@kingcounty.gov | (206) 477-1005 www.kingcounty.gov/upthegrove
