Update to Schedule for Council's Review
2020 Comprehensive Plan Update
As you are likely aware, the King County Executive has issued a proclamation of emergency declaring that extraordinary measures must be taken in response to the spread of COVID-19 in King County. As a result, the King County Council has cancelled most Committee meetings at least through the end of March, and delayed review of non-essential legislation.
The review of the 2020 Comprehensive Plan update has been revised to reflect these actions. The updated schedule can be found here. This schedule is tentative and subject to change, as the situation is fluid and this schedule may need to be adjusted based on advice or requirements from Public Health – Seattle & King County or other government agencies. Please check back at the schedule webpage later in the spring for updates, in the event that Council staff are not able to send email news updates.
Under this tentative schedule, an initial draft striking amendment will be made public on or around April 17, 2020. A public hearing notice will be issued at the beginning of May based on that draft striking amendment and Councilmember identified line amendment concepts. A finalized striking amendment, and individual line amendments, would be issued at the end of the week on or around June 5, 2020. When these items are available, Council staff will make every effort to publish them online at the Council's Comprehensive Plan Website.
A public hearing at full Council is currently scheduled to be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 1:00p.m in the Council Chambers on the 10th Floor of the King County Courthouse, at 516 3rd Ave, Seattle, WA. If you are not able to attend the meeting in person, it can be viewed live on KCTV cable channel 22 or online. Check the public hearing notice when it is issued to ensure that the date, time or location has not changed.
Following the public hearing, the Council may use the June 16, 23 and/or 30th full Council meetings to deliberate and vote on the 2020 Comprehensive Plan update.
Written comments on the proposed plan are welcome at any time during the Council’s review. Comments can be submitted electronically by either:
