This Wednesday, the King County Council voted to approve a plan to create a regional authority on homelessness. Throughout the past several months, I’ve been fighting for elements of this plan that I believe are crucial: a strong voice for suburban cities, a key role for elected officials, and no new layers of government.
Though this plan has passed the King County Council, it still needs to be voted on by the Seattle City Council. I will continue to track this critical issue and provide updates on developments. Homelessness is the biggest issue in our region, and we deserve to see real progress, for the betterment of the entire County.
Update on Lake Wilderness Trail Project
Maple Valley Mayor Sean P. Kelly, Councilmember Dunn, and Maple Valley Deputy Mayor Dana Parnello visit the site of the potential expansion of the Cedar to Green Trail
In response to local opposition of a King County Parks project to pave the Lake Wilderness Trail, I have worked to require that the Parks Department collaborate with the City of Maple Valley for a joint recommendation on alternative projects that could be pursued in place of this paving project. This means that the Parks Levy funding that was allocated to the paving project will remain invested in the Maple Valley community, but the actual project that receives that funding will jointly reassessed by both the County and the City of Maple Valley.
One of the ideas on the table is extending the Cedar to Green trail south in order to connect to the Black Diamond Open Space trail system, including safer rail and street crossing.
If you have any input on this proposal, please email me at: reagan.dunn@kingcounty.gov
Ironman is coming to Maple Valley!
Maple Valley will serve as the newest host venue for Ironman! I'm proud to partner with the City of Maple Valley to help provide County support for the triathlon, including traffic control and trail access. Besides being a fun and inspiring event, hosting a major triathlon raises the profile of the community and provides a boost to the local economy.
The Ironman triathlon will take place on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020 with general registration opening Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 at the Ironman website.
Drainage District Elections Process
Dunn swears in appointees to Drainage District Commissioner seats
Today marks the final day for candidates to file for Commissioner of Drainage District 5/5A, Drainage District 6, and Drainage District 13, all of which are in Enumclaw.
Last July, I worked to appoint three short-term Commissioners to fill vacant Drainage District Commissioner seats until elections could be held in February 2020. Come February, property owners within these Drainage Districts will be able to vote to elect their new Commissioners.
Drainage Districts are a special purpose district, which typically serve a singular purpose and operate separately from a city, town, or county government.
