Dear Friends,
I hope you will take a minute to read my editorial that was printed in this morning’s Seattle Times. You may have heard that Seattle Mayor Durkan and Executive Constantine are proposing a controversial new authority to oversee homelessness policy for the region. There are many aspects of their plan that concern me.
I believe that our region’s homelessness crisis demands better ideas than more government and more taxes, and I foresee this new authority on homelessness becoming a vehicle for extending Seattle’s failed policies to surrounding suburban cities and unincorporated areas. We can do better.
I am heartened by bipartisan opposition to this authority on homelessness, and will continue to track the issue closely as more details come to light. In the coming week, I’ll be rolling out some proposals of my own that take a different approach to homelessness. I look forward to sharing these ideas with you.
Sincerely,
Reagan
