September News Update and Upcoming Events

Updates from the King County Flood Control District

Now is a crucial time to be investing in environmental health and longevity—and I’m proud to be part of doing just that.

Last month, the King County Flood Control District announced that more than $4.6 million is being awarded to salmon habitat and recovery efforts across King County.

Lower Russell Levee Project Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Flood Control District also broke ground on its largest project to date—a $52 million investment in the Lower Russell Road Levee Setback project along the Green River.

When construction of the levee is completed, it will ensure 500-year protection for businesses and communities in the valley floor while also providing much-needed habitat restoration for salmon in the Green River.

Van Deliveries

Ms. Mari's Martial Arts Van Delivery

Our team recently delivered the last of our retired King County Metro Transit Vanpool vans to four wonderful programs across South King County.

This year, we delivered the retired vans to Living Well Kent, Ms. Mari’s Martial Arts Club in Renton, the Burien Police Department’s Badges and Barbells and Explorers programs, and Kent Youth and Family Services.

What Happened in August?

Visit to the Kent Police Department

In August, I went on a ride-along with the Kent Police Department. I saw firsthand the important work that Kent police officers are doing to keep the city safe and strengthen relationships between the community and law enforcement officers.

Lighthouse for the Blind Tour

I also visited Lighthouse for the Blind, a non-profit organization that supports low-vision and legally blind folks with services, job opportunities and training. It was a joy to visit an organization providing such crucial and life-changing services to people like my father, a former airline pilot who lost his vision years ago.
