Celebrating Standout Organizations in South King County

Spending time with organizations doing incredible work in South King County is one of the best parts of my service.
This month, I delivered checks to the Seattle South King Sluggers and the Minority Veterans of America.

The Sluggers is a baseball team for low-vision and blind baseball players, and the Minority Veterans of America aims to advance equity for minority veterans.
King County is proud to provide funding to both organizations, who are working to make South King County more inclusive and welcoming for all.

Summer Festival Season
July was festival month in South King County. At Kent Cornucopia Days and Renton River Days, I got the chance to connect with community organizations and constituents, enjoy local bands and performers and celebrate our communities. What Happened in July?

I recently visited the Burien Community Court, a wonderful new addition to South King County’s justice system. The Court aims to interrupt the incarceration cycle and meet low-level offenders where they are at with the services they need.
This incredible service model is already having a positive impact in Burien and beyond.

I also went on a hard hat tour of the nearly-completed Kent YMCA, where I learned about the exciting plans for this new community hub in Kent. King County is honored to have provided funding for the newest branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, which will serve the Kent community with recreation activities and community programming.
