Transit Alert – Route 41 to downtown Seattle will be revised to serve Union St instead of Stewart St starting 7/27

Starting Saturday, July 27, Route 41 to downtown Seattle will be revised to serve Union St instead of Stewart St, due to congestion on Stewart.

New stops
At that time Route 41 will no longer serve the stops westbound on Stewart St at 7th Av or southbound 3rd Av at Pine St.

It will instead stop on Convention Place just north of Union St when it is traveling on the southbound I-5 Express lanes, and westbound on Union St between Sixth and Fifth avenues at all times.

Background
Metro is making this change to the southbound routing after hearing concerns from riders about long travel times on Stewart St. Analysis shows that median travel times for Route 41 increased to be 10-15 minutes longer during the morning peak commute time since resuming surface street operation in March. The delays are caused by I-5 ramp and downtown street congestion.

By moving Route 41 to Union Street, buses will avoid the worst of the delays.

The northbound routing for Route 41 heading to Northgate and Lake City is not changing and will continue to serve the same streets and stops as usual.

Rider options
For most riders the revision either takes them closer to their downtown destination or involves a walk of about the same distance as when they exit on Stewart St or at Pine St.

Riders with destinations north of Stewart St can decide to walk a little farther from the Union St stops, transfer to service along Third or Fourth Avenues that will take them farther north, or plan their trips using different buses to get them closer.
