Dear Friends:

Memorial Day weekend is a time to reflect on the sacrifice of the men and women who died defending our country and our freedoms. As we live our everyday lives this weekend, please remember those who made such a life possible for us.

Last November, I was honored to help commemorate the life of First Lieutenant Michael Adams, a longtime Fairwood resident who died serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Standing alongside his parents, we held a ceremony to rename the road he grew up on as “1LT Michael Adams Place.” I hope that “1LT Michael Adams Place” will continue to remind us that the freedoms we enjoy do not come easy.

If you are looking for ways to honor our fallen heroes on Memorial Day, there are ceremonies planned throughout King County you can attend. I wanted to alert you to three events happening this weekend in District 9:

  • Sunday, May 26th, at 2 PM, the Enumclaw Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1949 is hosting its annual Memorial Day ceremony at Enumclaw Veterans Memorial Park
  • Memorial Day, May 27th, at 9 AM, the Enumclaw Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1949 will have a service and gun salute at Evergreen Memorial Park
  • Memorial Day, May 27th, at 1 PM, the Tahoma National Cemetery will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony at the cemetery's Main Flag Pole Assembly Area

It is with deep gratitude that we remember the sacrifices of our fallen military. May we never take for granted the freedoms that so many have fought and died for.

Sincerely,

Reagan Dunn
