Advisory on Social Security Administration's "No Match" Notices

all are welcome

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that it will resume a practice discontinued in 2012 of sending “no match” notices to employers when social security numbers they submit with payroll do not match SSA’s records.  Employers in King County have already reported receiving these “no match” letters.  The notice itself does not include the employees' names that have allegedly mismatched SSNs. Instead, the employer is asked to log into an online system to download the list of all employees that SSA claims have mismatched information.

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project has put together a community advisory to explain the issue and address some of the questions employers and community members may have.  The advisory is available in English and Spanish.

Funding Opportunity

Regional Census Fund

The Regional Census Fund is a partnership between the Seattle Foundation, City of Seattle, and King County aimed at a robust and accurate census.  The desired outcomes are to organize, inform, and activate residents in historically underrepresented communities that are at risk of being undercounted in the 2020 Census.

Applications will be prioritized from organizations that:

  • Are community-based and grassroots nonprofits, and tribes;
  • Led, staffed, or guided by individuals reflecting the race, ethnicity, and culture of the communities being served;
  • Showcase a history or demonstrated ability to reach and engage members from their communities; and
  • Have a plan for engaging historically undercounted communities.

Applications are due May 15, 2019.  Details on how to submit a proposal, the funding process and timeline can be found at Seattle Foundation's online portal:  https://seattlefoundation.smapply.org/prog/2020_census/

Police Oversight Survey

If you live or work in King County, WA, you are invited to complete a survey intended to answer the question, "What are the public's priorities for police oversight in King County?"  Police oversight offices represent the public's interest in reviewing police actions and operations, and the purpose of the survey is to identify how people feel about issues relating to police accountability.

This survey consists of 32 questions, takes about 6 minutes to complete, and is available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
The poll closes Sunday, May 5, 2019, at 5pm PST.

King County's Office of Equity and Social Justice will convene an Equity Expert Review panel and community stakeholders to address unmet needs in King County’s educational systems, and to advise on developing a plan that equitably invests $315 million of Puget Sound Taxpayer Accountability Account funds between 2019 and 2034.  Potential areas for investment include (but are not limited to) scholarships; facility construction and maintenance; and programming to support children and youth who are homeless, in the child welfare system, involved in the juvenile justice system or otherwise vulnerable or underserved.  We want to hear from you!

Public Health – Seattle & King County will offer a community-based workshop, From Reunification to Recovery: Assuring Partnerships and Systems Are in Place to Support Our Community

June 6, 2019

9am - 4pm

Renton Community Center, 1715 Maple Valley Hwy, Renton, WA 98057

Reunification is a key aspect of disaster management but also one of the most complex. After a man-made or natural disaster, family members and friends will immediately call or self-report to locate loved ones. This will create coordination challenges for all organizations involved in reunification.  By attending this session, participants will:

• Learn about reunification roles and responsibilities of public health, healthcare, medical examiners, law enforcement, emergency management, and community based organizations

• Provide feedback on regional reunification planning
• Contribute to solving challenges and concerns about the reunification process
