New Bus Service in South King County

We continue to emphasize the growing need in South King County for more public transit service and am excited to share that several routes that serve our communities will be gaining service this month. The Route 102 will add two additional trips in the PM peak to relieve overcrowding. The Route 106 will receive an upgrade to its Sunday service from 30 minute to 15 minute frequency. The Route 111 will receive one additional trip during the morning commute to help commuting parents utilize the bus after school drop off times, in addition to an afternoon trip. You can find more information on the service additions and new bus schedules here.

In addition to the added service, all Metro and Sound Transit buses will no longer operate in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel on March 23rd and will begin running on downtown streets instead. Several routes in South King County including the 101, 102, and 150 will be affected by this shift to street level service. The 101, 102, and 150 will now operate on 2nd Ave in the southbound direction. King County Metro staff will be stationed in the tunnel throughout March to help answer questions during the transition and direct riders to the correct surface streets to catch their buses.

King County dealt with more snow than we are used to seeing during our winters. We hope everyone was able to stay safe, warm and enjoy a bit of sledding and snowball fighting. The snow brings some extra challenges for transportation in King County. In our most recent storm, Metro had to activate their Emergency Snow Network which reduces bus service to only core routes around the region.

King County has a webpage dedicated to resources for emergency preparedness that can be helpful in our next snow storm or emergency. There is also a “disaster skills training” scheduled in Des Moines on Tuesday, April 2nd at 630pm at the Des Moines King County Library. You can find more information and register here.
