Every year, the King County Council awards the Martin Luther King, Jr. Medal of Distinguished Service to people who have answered Dr. King’s question: “What are you doing for others?”

Yesterday, I was honored to award the District 6 medal to Pastor James McEachran. During his three decades as pastor at Bellevue’s Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church, Pastor Jim has inspired and educated generations of community members who live their values and work for the common good. In response to the growing need for affordable housing in East King County, McEachran helped create St. Andrew’s Housing Group, which would become the Eastside’s leading affordable housing developer, Imagine Housing.

His leadership has helped make a very real difference in the lives of Eastside residents.
