Recognizing RASKC's Volunteer of the Month: Denise Kovecs

Kovecs

Meet Denise!  RASKC is very happy to honor Denise Kovecs. She is very hard working, extremely resilient in the face of phenomenal challenges, amazingly dedicated, and she brings a fantastic background to RASKC.

Denise has served as Lead Volunteer of our Covington Petco Cat-Care Team since this team was launched in 2013. She works weekly shifts - Cat Meet and Greet and cat-grooming- in Kent, in addition to her weekly shift at Petco. For many years, starting in 2012, Denise also volunteered on a weekly shift on RASKC’s Reber Ranch Cat-Care Team. She has also participated in several special events for RASKC. You can see how she has easily contributed over 1,300 hours. Thank you, Denise!

An interview with Denise can be found on our website and blog.

Spotlight on an Exceptional Youth: Sofie Ball

Sofie

Meet Sofie!  RASKC’s spotlight shines on fifth grader Sofie Ball and her mom Regina.

Animal Care Technician Natasha Coates exclaimed, “Sofie and Regina Ball volunteer every week on our Kirkland Team, often times picking up extra shifts.  They are 100% reliable, always upbeat and energetic. EVERYTHING gets done, and they always ask if there are extra projects that need to be done. They are great advocates for getting the word out to friends and family as to which animals need a home. They have a HUGE heart for animals, and Sofie wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up!”

Sofie is so excited about volunteering, her face lights up every time she arrives for a shift. Sofie memorizes all the animals’ names and character traits, so she can help people find the perfect pet.

“We especially love working with RASKC Animal Care Technician Natasha, socializing the cats and dogs, and seeing the animals find their warm cozy homes,” Sofie and Regina said.

Sofie plays piano and guitar and helps to care for Daisy, her Miniature Schnauzer. She can often be found making slime and even runs a slime company called Plum Puppies! Her mom is especially proud that Sofie is a kind and loving person.

Regina volunteers at the elementary school teaching art and promoting emergency preparedness and sustainability work. Sofie describes her mom as “amazing, thoughtful, funny, aware, and someone who loves animals, especially dogs.”

Thank you, Sofie and Regina!

What’s happening @ RASKC

Snow days don’t faze RASKC!

Mikel

While Snow Apocalypse resulted in RASKC’s closing to the public for three days this month, all pets continued to receive loving care every day from staff and volunteers.

Icy roads did not prevent our Animal Control Officers from responding to calls for help throughout the county at all hours of the day and night. Our Animal Care Technicians braved the weather to come in and care for our pets.  And volunteers trekked in to care for cats and to walk dogs.

Thanks to everyone who made extra efforts to help out during the snow days!
