Recovering from the Winter Weather

Your Update on What's Happening at the King County Council  

Dear Friends,

As our region continues to recover from our recent extreme winter weather, I want to take a moment to thank our Road Services Division crews for their tireless efforts to treat unincorporated roads. They have worked around-the-clock, 12 hour shifts in tough conditions to battle the snow and ice on our streets.

As of this morning, the Road Services Division reported that all of our primary roads are in good to very good condition. They are now focusing snow plowing and snow removal efforts within residential communities. The Road Services Division is also bringing in resources from other parts of the county to help clear snow in areas where it is needed.

If you live or drive in unincorporated King County and are still in need of snow removal and snow plow assistance, our Roads helpline operators are standing by 24/7 to take your call: (206) 477-8100.

In the coming weeks and months, once our Road Services Division staff has been able to respond to all outstanding calls for snow removal and has had some time to catch up on some much-needed sleep, I look forward to working with them to continue efforts to improve our snow response in the future.

Historical Plaque Re-Installed at the King County Fairgrounds

Many years ago my mother, Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn, gave me an American flag that once flew over the U.S. Capitol. It’s very special to see that same flag flying over the King County Fairgrounds in Enumclaw as we raised it in honor of the re-installation of the historical King County Fairgrounds plaque, which was uprooted and discarded during renovations.

We were honored to have local Eagle Scout Ethan Decker, who built the new base for the plaque, join us for the unveiling ceremony, along with former King County Commissioner Scott Wallace, who helped cultivate the Fair for many years.

A 4Culture Preservation Special Project Grant is designed to support you efforts to preserve and safeguard a historic site or building in King County. It can fund neighborhood surveys, landmark nominations, building assessments, planning projects, educational workshops, advocacy efforts, and more.
