Delivering a Van to Vine Maple Place
I was honored to deliver a “retired” surplus Metro Vanpool van to Vine Maple Place – a nonprofit charity serving South King County that works with single-parent families to break the generational cycle of homelessness. Vine Maple Place provides a safe and stable environment for homeless families, and equips those in their care with self-sufficiency. They will use the van to transport clients and their children to job fairs and interviews, doctor appointments, life skills classes, children’s field trips, and court appointments.
The vanpool program donates Metro vans that have reached the end of their county service life to local governments and community programs. This important program provides transportation assistance to those who need it most. It provides mobility for a diverse array of King County residents, supports the positive work of various local organizations, and relieves traffic congestion by reducing the need for single-occupancy vehicles.

The King County Sheriff Department’s "Shop With a Cop" is a commendable program that helps our county’s disadvantaged children receive Christmas gifts each year. I had the pleasure of being part of this year’s event – one of the largest in America!
This year, over 500 kids who might not have gotten many, or any, presents this Christmas were able to shop for gifts for either themselves or somebody they love. Programs like Shop With a Cop strengthen our communities and ensure that every child gets to participate in the holiday spirit!
Thank you to the many agencies who helped put this together, including the Black Diamond, Enumclaw, and Seattle Police Departments; the Port of Seattle Police; Federal Marshals; and the FBI. Thank you also to the Soup Ladies for the incredible work they do in supporting our first responders, as well as to the Covington and Maple Valley Rotaries for their generosity toward children in need.
