Constituent priorities advanced for transportation, housing, and public safety in the 2019-2020 King County budget.

What’s $11.7 billion and supports transit, housing, public safety and many other critical services across King County? It’s the two-year King County budget.

On Tuesday, the King County Council unanimously approved 2019-2020 King County budget. I advanced many District 6 priorities with investments and initiatives in transportation, housing, and public safety. Specifically, the approved budget benefits residents and community organizations on the Eastside with:

  • $5 million to build affordable homes as a part of the Block 6B at Esterra Park project in Redmond, which will include a YMCA childcare center.  Esterra Park is located near the planned Overlake Light Rail Station and is expected to open in 2021.
  • $2 million as an initial contribution to building a permanent men’s emergency shelter in Bellevue.
  • $13,000 for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lake Washington Post 2995 in Redmond, through the Major Pete von Reichbauer (Ret.) Veterans Service organizations Grant Program. The Lake Washington Post will use the funds for much-needed upgrades to its facility, which serves members from all branches of the military.
  • 25,000 hours of new transit service above the Executive’s proposed budget to provide geographic balance to the transit system. This will ensure that new hours of transit service will benefit all of King County, including the Eastside.
