Budget
Season
As Chair of
the Budget Committee, I will be leading the 2019-2020 budget process for the
King County Council in the coming weeks. Together with my colleagues, we will
be making important choices for the budget, to balance the budget in a
responsible way that best meets the needs of our region.
Your input is a crucial part of the process. There will be many opportunities
for public comment. Information on these meetings can be found on our Council
website.
We also have
a new online comment tool.
I encourage you to check it out and share your priorities!

Mary’s Place Family Center
I recently
toured the new Mary’s Place Family Center in Burien.
Mary’s Place
is an extraordinary organization, which has been providing emergency shelter to
women and families for nearly 20 years. I was very impressed by the
partnerships they’ve built with neighbors, community organizations and our
schools. They celebrated their grand opening last week. You can learn more
about the work they do here.
Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Program
In
partnership with King County and the community, the Law Enforcement Assisted
Diversion (LEAD) program is a pre-booking pilot that addresses low-level drug
crimes in a few locations across King County. LEAD is exciting because it
recognizes the dignity of people and the value of getting them back on track,
while balancing the importance of holding people accountable.
This month,
the City of Burien was chosen for participation. I joined local elected
leaders, the King County Sheriff, and King County Executive to kick off the
pilot program.

Why Trails?
Do you enjoy
getting out on the many miles of trails in King County? King County Parks is
looking for public feedback on our regional trail systems. The information
gathered will be a part of future planning.
