King County Conservation Futures Grants support local projects that protect open space.

This week the
County Executive sent over a proposal for the King County Council to review and
adopt a 2019-2020 county budget. I'm excited to
announce the King County Conservation Futures (CFT) grants awards that will
be included in the
proposal. In 2019, 40 projects could be awarded $12.4 million in CFT grants and
$7.6 million in Parks Levy funds under this proposal.
If adopted in its current form, $5.9 million would go towards projects
in my district that focus on enhancing watershed habitat, buying open space,
and supporting farmland drainage.
$2,100,000
could go towards
purchasing 108 acres of land on Cougar Mountain from a family interested in preserving
their historic landholding. The new parcels would add to over 3,000 acres of land that has already been
preserved and would include a new public access trail on the south side of the
mountain. I am pleased
with the future recreation and conservation opportunities this purchase
will secure.
Retired Metro Van to Serve Enumclaw High School Transition Program
Young people gaining real-world work experience is a key to their independence. Getting that experience is difficult without proper transportation. I recently had the honor of presenting a retired Metro Vanpool van to the Enumclaw School District to assist in transporting students to and from their internship programs. Enumclaw’s Special Needs Transition Program helps students with special needs get real-world work experience by connecting them with businesses and training facilities for internships and preparing them to succeed in their post-secondary education goals.
If your non-profit organization is interested in applying for a retired van? Contact my office at Reagan.Dunn@kingcounty.gov or by calling 206-477-1009.
