September 12 committee vote and schedule update for 2018 Comprehensive Plan update

On Wednesday, September 12, King County Council's Planning, Rural Service and Environment Committee is scheduled to vote on the 2018 update to the 2016 King County Comprehensive Plan, which is a proposal to restructure the County’s comprehensive planning and subarea planning program (Proposed Ordinance 2018-0153). The committee meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the 10th Floor of the King County Courthouse, at 516 3rd Ave, Seattle, WA. This is currently scheduled as item #6 on the committee agenda and will include potential action on:

  • The Chair’s proposed Striking Amendment S1 to Proposed Ordinance 2018-0153.  The striking amendment includes substantive changes to the Executive’s proposed restructure of the County’s comprehensive planning and subarea planning program; updates to the 2016 Comprehensive Plan; and updates to the Vashon-Maury Island CSA Subarea Plan;
  • Individual amendments to Striking Amendment S1; and
  • Recommendation of the Proposed Ordinance, as amended, to the full Council.

All of the amendments that are currently proposed can be found on the Council’s Comprehensive Plan website.  Any additional amendments will be posted once they are available.  A written staff report for the briefing will be posted to the Council's Comprehensive Plan website prior to the committee meeting. If you are not able to attend these meetings in person, they can be viewed live on KCTV cable channel 22 or online.

An updated review and adoption schedule can also be found on the Council’s Comprehensive Plan website. The September 12th meeting is an additional committee level briefing.  After committee action, the Proposed Ordinance will go before the full Council for further review and refinement, with a public hearing and possible adoption scheduled for October 29, 2018.

There will be an opportunity for public comment on the proposed plan update during the committee meeting. Written comments are also welcome at any time.  Comments can be submitted electronically, by either emailing CouncilCompPlan@kingcounty.gov or clicking on the “Contact Us” button on the home page of the Comprehensive Plan website.
