Honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country and freedom.

Memorial Day honors the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our freedoms and defending the country we love.
It keeps at the forefront of our national conscience the great sacrifices these brave men, women, and their families have made in defense of our nation. To that end, this past week the county council passed a motion I sponsored to add an honorary street name to a stretch of roadway in the Fairwood community to be named for 1st Lieutenant Michael R. Adams.
1LT Adams graduated from Kentridge High School in 1998 and went on to graduate from West Point in 2002. Unfortunately, in 2004 while deployed serving his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom, he passed away in a tragic accident. However, he succeeded in the one goal he stated to his father during his service: bringing all of his platoon members home safely. While we could never truly do justice to the service and sacrifice of 1LT Adams, we hope this legislation will help to remember him and all that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Today our nation will honor the fallen by participating in solemn ceremonies at cemeteries and veterans’ memorials across our great country. I hope you and your family will join me in taking time today to honor all our fallen heroes.
