Remembering Special Deputies John Mines and George Yeaman who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

In 2016, I joined the King County Sheriff's Office in dedicating a memorial to fallen King County Sheriff's Officers who served our region. This week, Sheriff Mitzi Johanknecht led a ceremony to add two Special Deputies to the memorial wall located in the King County Courthouse.
Special Deputies George Yeaman and John Mines were conducting an aerial search on July 19, 1946 near Stirrup Lake when their plane crashed. Deputy Mines died on impact, Deputy Yeaman was rescued and taken to a hospital in Seattle where he died three days later.
Both men were veterans of WWII. John Mines started Kenmore Air with friends Bob Munro and Reg Collins in 1946. Deputy Yeaman was a graduate of the University of Washington.
We remember these deputies for their service and courage. I invite you to visit the King County Sheriff's Memorial, located near the 3rd Street Entrance of the King County Courthouse. Click to watch a video of the unveiling of the rededicated wall.
