Transforming government to deliver better outcomes for the people of King County

I recently had the opportunity to thank the talented staff and volunteers at King County’s animal services division for increasing the pet adoption rate by a record 20 percent in a single year, connecting nearly 3,000 cats and dogs with new loving families in 2017. It is a remarkable achievement by an agency that is delivering on my commitment to set a new standard of excellence in humane, compassionate animal care.

It is an inspiring example of the progress we are making to transform government operations to deliver better outcomes. Our success is not limited to animal services. Across the government, we are:

  • Unleashing the creativity and potential of our dedicated employees, empowering the people who know the work best,
  • Focusing on prevention, a less expensive, more effective approach to providing services,
  • Basing our decisions on data and the latest science,
  • Addressing the specific needs of each individual client and the root causes of challenges,
  • Creating strong community partnerships, working with trusted organizations that help us achieve shared goals,
  • And always striving to do better each day.

That unyielding commitment to continuous improvement really is the foundation for the work we are doing to create the nation’s best-run government. It is, to be sure, an ambitious goal, but it is one that guides the work we do to improve the quality of life for all people in King County.

Thank you, as always, for the opportunity to serve.

Sincerely,

Dow Constantine

King County Executive
