Pavement Marking Engineer I

The King County Road Services Division designs, builds, operates and maintains roads and bridges in unincorporated areas of King County. The division is committed to ensuring the county's transportation system is safe and efficient for all uses and modes of travel. The Division is responsible for 1,500 miles of road and 182 bridges, 5.7 million feet of drainage ditches, over 44,000 traffic control signs, 78 traffic signals, and 50 traffic cameras in unincorporated King County.

The Road Services Division, Engineering Services Section, is currently recruiting for a full-time Career Service position at the Engineer I level. The Engineer I will provide technical engineering support to the Pavement Markings Program. This position requires working long hours with a lot of walking in hot weather. Responsibilities for the Pavement Markings Program include assisting the pavement markings Engineer II with the following:
 
  1. Annual Striping Program
  2. Annual Raised Pavement Marking, or RPM, Program
  3. Annual Thermoplastic Program
  4. Pavement marking layout for the countywide Pavement Preservation Program
  5. Pavement marking support for the CIP program and traffic operations

WHO MAY APPLY:  This recruiting effort is open to all qualified King County career service employees who are members of the Professional Technical Employees (PTE), Local 17A King County career service employees, and the general public.  Under the collective bargaining agreement, first consideration is for lateral movement of current career service employees, holding the position of Engineer I, who are members of PTE, Local 17A.  
 
WORK SCHEDULE:  Typical schedule will be 5 X 8 hour days that may include a Saturday or Sunday. Schedules are subject to change. This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Schedule mandatory overtime including after hours, weekends, and holidays may be required depending on the workload.
