We are seeking an experienced Operating Engineer to join our highly productive, customer-focused team that provides excellent service to all King County residents and all users of the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, in Federal Way WA. The primary function of this position is to perform skilled hands-on repair and major maintenance activities related to the competition swimming pool, diving tank, and recreation swimming pools and their associated systems.

Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position Sunday - Thursday, 6 am – 2:30 pm and is overtime eligible.

Sample of Key Duties: 
  • Operate, inspect, repair and, maintain all building, security, sound, and life-safety systems, including swimming pools, HVAC, boilers, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related equipment. Ensure that all equipment is maintained following established maintenance standards.
  • Provide technical support on OMEGA sports timing equipment for swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming events.
  • Repair scoreboards and related timing equipment.
  • Respond to emergency repairs and event situations quickly and efficiently to keep events running on time.
  • Maintain and operate three swimming pools including mechanical equipment, chemical treatment, and related systems.
  • Maintain and operate HVAC and related systems such as Pool Pak.
  • Complete reports accurately and in a timely manner.
The most qualified candidates will possess a current Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator license and have recent experience performing Facility or Swimming Pool Equipment Maintenance at a public swimming facility.  We are seeking candidates who also have:
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance, operation, and repair of all HVAC systems, associated equipment, plumbing systems, building interior/exterior repair. Knowledge of DMX lighting systems desired.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing Omega aquatic sports timing equipment or experience with a similar system.
  • Working knowledge of swim meet equipment software/applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Pool Pak operation modes and repairs to this equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with swimming pool mechanical equipment and repairs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and to handle difficult situations using discretion, patience, proper etiquette, and professionalism.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to positively interact with a variety of people in a diverse work environment.
  • Skill in prioritizing and efficiently completing tasks simultaneously with the ability to adapt to changes in workload demand.
  • Skill in working under time-critical and demanding situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
 Physical Environment/ Requirements:
  • This position involves heavy physical labor including bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, and lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to assist with crowd control in emergency situations.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR.
 Necessary Special Requirements: At the time of appointment the selected candidate must possess:
  • EPA Universal refrigeration license.
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certification.
  • City of Seattle grade 3 or 4 Boiler License or have Boiler experience and be able to obtain one of these licenses within 24 months.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner.
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, PDT
  • A job offer will be contingent on passing a pre-employment physical exam and successfully passing a background check, which includes criminal history.
