King County is searching for a Security Supervisor to provide strong leadership, inspiration, and motivation to the Security Unit in the Facilities Management Division (FMD), Building Services Section.
The Security Supervisor serves as the first line supervisor for the FMD Security Unit responsible for ensuring and maintaining the security of County buildings, facilities, and property at multiple locations.
This position involves regular interaction with staff at all levels of County government. We seek an exceptional leader with high integrity and trust, who can interact comfortably with senior management, work well in a visible public environment, effectively prioritize critical incidents, and has excellent motivational and communication skills.
ABOUT THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION:
Through a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, the Facilities Management Division (FMD) operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities and environments. The Building Services Section provides custodial services, maintenance and building operations, as well as building security to approximately 32 facilities throughout King County. The Security Unit is responsible for physical building security - seven days a week, 24 hours per day, employee ID/Access, Courthouse Information Desk, Courthouse Lost and Found, Radio Dispatch of FMD Security and King County Sheriff's Office Court Protection personnel, and after-hours escort program. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Possess a valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to obtain timely transportation to remote work locations with limited or no public transportation. Final appointment is contingent upon successfully passing a references, a fingerprint based Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background investigation, and a pre-employment physical examination.
ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:
This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and not overtime eligible. The normal work hours for this position are Tuesday - Saturday, 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. These hours may vary based on operational need. This position reports to the King County Courthouse in Seattle, WA however will travel to other location throughout King County, as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Supervise assigned staff by performing the following personnel responsibilities: provide recommendations on staff selection; train staff; investigate alleged misconduct and recommend and/or implement disciplinary action; evaluate and document work performance formally and informally; coach, counsel, mentor, and motivate staff.
- Oversee scheduling; approve absence requests and authorize overtime; complete payroll documents. Analyze overtime and other work patterns.
- Oversee the provision of training to security staff and others regarding security procedures, safety, emergency response, and critical incidents. Maintain accurate records of all training and prepare annual report for all training.
- Act as the on-call, 24/7 response Duty Manager for all building/facilities issues that may arise.
- Review processes and procedures and recommend improvements to increase effectiveness of services provided; coordinate and oversee implementation of changes.
- Maintain records and files: review and/or prepare incident, activity and statistical reports.
- Develop budget requests; recommend equipment purchases.
- Respond to reports of possible crimes or critical incidents at County serviced properties and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Coordinate and assist in implementing emergency responses to disasters or civil disturbances as directed by the Facilities Security Manager.
- Testify in court, presenting facts and observations accurately and objectively.
- Liaison with peer groups; coordinate joint training ventures with other work groups. Participate in community security activities and public information groups and events.
- When required, this position will act as Fire Life Safety Director and Facilities Security Manager and perform the job duties of a Security Sergeant and Security Officer.
- Have a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and in-depth background in Public Safety and Building Security including extensive experience managing a large security guard force operation; OR any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates an ability to perform in the areas of responsibility listed above.
- Experience in supervision of a large work force.
- Have the ability to communicate and synthesize complex ideas and concepts effectively in multiple settings with a diverse audience.
- Be customer-focused in building and maintaining positive relationships with groups such as intergovernmental agencies and separately elected branches of government.
- Be able to persevere and adapt as required, while working in a multi-faceted and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Be able to model best practices in managing a large group of multi-level staff by:
- Supervising, coaching, supporting, and empowering employees to work collaboratively;
- Assess and develop skills in order to encourage a culture of continuous learning; and
- Cultivate a model of every employee being accountable for high-quality service delivery.
- A four year degree in a related field.
- A minimum of 4 years supervising a large work force.
- Experience developing staff training and procedural accountability.
