Helping more young people throughout King County reach
adulthood healthy, empowered, and ready to thrive
Best Starts for Kids has launched
new investments that will provide young people with the opportunities and tools
they need to weather challenges during adolescence and be ready to flourish as
adults. The Youth Development Initiative – a partnership between King County
and 32 nonprofit organizations – will provide leadership opportunities,
mentoring, and other services that help young people achieve their full
potential.

King County is installing 206 solar
panels at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center. The panels are expected
to generate more than 70,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, powering
the park’s community center and lighting up a nearby sport court.

The 2018 grant
funding application opportunity for community organizations in unincorporated
King County closes Friday, Nov. 17. Grants
are available to organizations throughout unincorporated King County to support
local community building initiatives. Local
organizations serving residents of unincorporated King County have until
Nov. 17 to apply for up to $5,000 in funding to support local
initiatives through King County’s CSA Program. The funding
application, funding criteria, and information listing past awardees is
available on the website.
The Arc Artist Fellowship is a new 4Culture grant program, a
$12,000 award in unrestricted funding to offset daily expense for fellows as
they pursue their creative work. Eligible
applicants must be artists with physical, developmental, cognitive,
intellectual, and/or emotional disabilities. Apply
by Nov. 29 at https://www.4culture.org/grants/arc-fellowship/.
Skyway Solutions is seeking to support the next generation of
leaders to build connections, gain leadership and upward mobility tools, engage
their community, and gain placement in the workforce. Participants will receive
a $500 stipend in the form of a financial investment tool. Residents of ZIP
code 98178 between the ages of 18- 24 can learn more and apply here.
Youth and Amateur Sports Grants (YASG) are designed to
support fit and healthy communities. YASG invests in programs and capital
improvements that reduce barriers to access physical activity. There are
special opportunities for unincorporated areas. For more information, check out

Trailhead Direct is on pause until the spring. Trailhead Direct is a transit van pilot project sponsored by King County Metro’s Community Connections program and King County Parks that seeks to ease vehicle congestion, reduce safety hazards and expand access to hiking destinations in the Issaquah Alps. The Mt. Peak Historical Fire Lookout Association is
dedicated to the reconstruction of the fire lookout tower that once stood atop
Mt. Peak. They group is currently conducting a feasibility study and wants your
input on the project. A second public meeting will be held on
Wednesday, Nov. 8, 6-8 p.m., at the Enumclaw Library. For

Marymoor Playground South closure
The Marymoor South playground is closed for rehabilitation.
These renovations are part of the King County Parks levy funded Play
Area Rehabilitation Program. Follow the Parks Plog for construction updates.
Tolt-MacDonald Park barn rehabilitation update
King County
Parks is planning to replace the roof
of the Tolt-MacDonald Barn in Carnation. Repairs are planned to start later
this fall. The barn will be closed for the duration of repairs and will be
expected to reopen for public use in spring 2018.

The GMVUAC biennial survey, conducted online from
Nov. 20 to Dec. 15, addresses issues such as planning, zoning, development,
traffic, economics, water, and sewage. Citizens may also express their interest
