The Doug Baldwin Foundation, City of Renton, and Renton School District have partnered to build a community center focused on families in the Cascade/Benson Hill area. This week Councilmember
Upthegrove and I met with Doug Baldwin and presented $75,000 to the City of Renton for the center's capital campaign.
Plans for the Family First Community Center include programming for education, health care, youth sports, and classes
in art, technology, music, and English as a second language. The proposed 26,000 square
foot facility includes a gymnasium, classrooms, and multipurpose space next to Renton's Cascade Elementary School. I look forward to seeing the project develop over the coming years.
Tahoma's Student Transition gets a Retired Metro Van
On Thursday I delivered a retired Metro Vanpool van to the Tahoma School District’s
Student
Transition Program, which serves students ages 18-21 experiencing disabilities, and
provides job training, recreational outings, and valuable
experiences in the community.
It was a pleasure to meet some of the students and hear from their instructors about how the van will provide access to employment and community outings.
The students from the Tahoma School District’s Student Transition Program join instructor Rawna Hamann and Councilmember Dunn as he presents the keys to a surplus Metro Transit Vanpool van to the program
