Transit Alert – Ride transit to Seattle area community events this weekend; expect some reroutes & delays due to expected crowds and traffic

Transit service will be affected by multiple community events and construction projects in and around the Seattle area this weekend. The largest events celebrate Pride Weekend, culminating with the Seattle Pride Parade on Sunday, for which officials estimate 200,000 people might attend.

Even if it is affected by temporary reroutes or delays, riding transit is still a great way to get to local events and activities, where there is often heavy traffic congestion and very limited parking.

Expect some planned transit reroutes as well as possible service delays due to traffic, crowds and congestion associated with these events. Use regularly published schedules, allow plenty of travel time and expect delays.

Events, reroute start and end times and routing, and other details may be subject to change.

Saturday, June 24 events
On Saturday, from start of service until about 11:00 AM, Metro will operate free Link Shuttle service between SODO Station and Westlake Station while inspection work is completed on the I-90 ramp above Stadium Station. While Link light rail will not be able to operate through the transit tunnel during this time, trains will operate as usual between Angle Lake and SODO and between UW and Westlake, and all regularly scheduled buses will serve the tunnel and all posted stops.

Greenwood Classic Car Show
On Saturday, June 24, from 5:00 AM until 6:00 PM, Route 5 will be rerouted off of Greenwood Av N between N 67th St & N 90th St during the Greenwood Classic Car Show.

Pride Festival Capitol Hill
On Saturday, June 24, from 6:00 PM to 12 Midnight, routes 49 and 60 will be rerouted off of Broadway between E John and E Mercer streets during the Pride Festival Capitol Hill.

While bus service is only rerouted during the events, transit riders in the Greenwood and Broadway areas can expect possible service delays due to expected traffic congestion.

Mariners Game
Expect possible transit service delays due to traffic, crowds and congestion associated with Saturday evening’s home Mariner game at 7:10 PM.

Sunday, 6/25 events
Seattle Pride Parade
On Sunday, from approximately 7:00 AM until about 8:30 PM, transit service will be rerouted in the downtown Seattle and West Queen Anne areas due to the Seattle Pride Parade.

Pride Party in Tilikum Park
From 7:00 AM until about 11:30 PM, routes 3 and 4 will be rerouted near the west Queen Anne area during the Pride Party in Tilikum Park.

Most downtown Seattle and Queen Anne area buses will be rerouted at some point during these events, including routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 24, 33, 40, 47, 49, 62, 70, RapidRide C & D lines, and ST 522, ST 545 and ST 554. Transit service in adjacent areas and on other parts of affected routes may also be delayed. Different reroutes have different start and end times.

Mariners Game
Expect possible transit service delays due to traffic, crowds and congestion associated with Sunday’s home Mariner game at 1:10 PM.

Planned events & construction activities
Use regularly published transit schedules to plan your trip, but expect possible delays and allow plenty of time.

Transit service during unexpected or civic events
In areas where there are crowds, traffic or civic events, whether scheduled or unexpected, disrupting normal travel patterns or activities, transit riders are advised to be aware of conditions in their immediate vicinity – such as street closures, detours, police directions, etc. - and be prepared for delays or to make revisions to travel plans – such as using a different bus stop or a different route, based on specific circumstances.

During these kinds of events, be prepared for unexpectedly revised traffic or routing and for delays in transit service. Transit riders are encouraged to know the alternate stops or routes that may be in the vicinity of their starting points and destinations.

Depending on the time and the nature of such events, Metro may not be able to provide real time information or service updates via email or text. Event start and end times and other details may be subject to change.
