Transit Alert Correction – Ride Metro to weekend events; note service revisions due to events, the Memorial Day holiday & Tuesday’s closure of the South Bellevue P&R
King County, Washington sent this bulletin at 05/25/2017 04:52 PM PDTWhile riding Metro to most events remains a reliable and cost-effective way to go, Metro Transit service will be affected by holiday weekend events, including the Northwest Folklife Festival at Seattle Center, a Sounders match, community events, Monday’s Memorial Day holiday service schedule and the long-term closure of the South Bellevue Park-and-Ride starting Tuesday morning. In areas where service or schedules may be delayed due to crowds or traffic associated with events, allow plenty of time for all travel.
Ride Metro to Folklife & the Sounders match
Folklife
Transit service near Seattle Center may experience delays due to crowds and traffic associated with the Northwest Folklife Festival, May 26-29. To get directly to the festival, ride Metro bus routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 13, 24, 32 or 33, or the RapidRide D Line. Routes 5, 26, 28, 40, RapidRide C and E lines and the South Laker Union Streetcar travel to within walking distance of Seattle Center.
Sounders
Nearly all transit service that travels through downtown Seattle stops near or within walking distance of CenturyLink Field. Use regularly scheduled routes and published times to plan your trip to the stadium, but be prepared for crowds and possible service or schedule delays in the Pioneer Square, Stadium and SODO areas during large stadium events
Weekend community events
Transit service is also temporarily rerouted or delayed near smaller weekend events, such as Saturday’s Emerald Bike Ride, Sunday’s UW Seattle 5K and various construction activities in Metro‘s service area. As with larger events, check your service ahead of time, allow plenty of travel time and be prepared for delays.
Metro operates a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, Metro Transit operates a Sunday schedule.
Metro offices, including the Customer Information phone line, and the Lost and Found and Pass Sales counters, will be closed. If a Metro bus route does not normally operate on Sunday, it will not operate on Memorial Day.
Other holiday transit service notes
- The West Seattle Water Taxi operates a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day, as do DART routes 773 and 775.
- The Vashon Island Water Taxi route will not operate on Monday.
- The South Lake Union Streetcar and the First Hill Streetcar operate a Sunday schedule.
The South Bellevue Park-and-Ride closes 5/30
On Tuesday, May 30, the South Bellevue Park-and-Ride will close for approximately five years for East Link construction.
At that time, southbound Metro Route 241 and Sound Transit Express routes 550, 555 and 556 will no longer turn into the park-and-ride, but will stay on Bellevue Way SE instead, and serve the posted bus stop just north of 112th Av SE, across the street from the park-and-ride. This routing is already reflected in the current spring timetables.
Buses heading toward the Bellevue Transit Center will continue to use the stop on Bellevue Way SE, just outside the park-and-ride.
Visit Sound Transit for information about alternate park-and-ride and travel options.
Transit service during unexpected or civic events
In areas where there are crowds, traffic or civic events - whether scheduled or unexpected - disrupting normal travel patterns or activities, transit riders are advised to be aware of conditions in their immediate vicinity – such as street closures, detours, police directions, etc. - and be prepared for delays or to make revisions to travel plans – such as using a different bus stop or a different route - based on specific circumstances.
During these kinds of events, be prepared for unexpectedly revised traffic or routing and for delays in transit service. Transit riders are encouraged to know the alternate stops or routes that may be in the vicinity of their starting points and destinations.
Depending on the time and the nature of such events, Metro may not be able to provide real time information or service updates via email or text. Event start and end times and other details may be subject to change.
