Honoring those who died serving our county
|
|
Each year we as a nation gather to remember those who died on our behalf so that we may live in freedom. We must never forget these brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.
This year our nation is commemorating the Centennial of America’s entrance into World War One. In recognition of this historic anniversary, my colleague Councilmember Rod Dembowski and I worked to ensure the timely restoration of two 1920’s era bronze plaques memorializing employees of the City of Seattle and King County who served and those that did not return home.
Today, we enjoy the privileges of freedom paid for by the sacrifices of not only those who died during World War One, but all who have died while serving in our country’s armed forces in defense of our nation.
If you are unable to attend a Memorial Day ceremony this year, I would invite you to join me in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm, this Memorial Day to acknowledge and honor our fallen service members.
Newcastle Resident Receives King County Award for Service
This week I had the opportunity to present Newcastle resident Vicki Olson (pictured right) with this year's District 9 MLK Medal of Distinguished Service award. Vicki's tireless work to capture the history of Newcastle reminds us all the value of preserving the past for future generations.

Thank you to all who participated in this year's Unincorporated Area Town Halls!
On Monday I heard from friends and neighbors of Southeast King County at the last of four annual District 9 Town Hall meetings. There were concerns and questions about a number of issues such as septic tanks, marijuana, law enforcement, and problems facing the County.
