100 years ago today our country entered World War I, or as it was coined, “the war to end all wars”. I joined my colleague, Councilmember Rod Dembowski, members of Enumclaw's VFW Post Hall 1949, and the public in a ceremony rededicating two restored plaques honoring the service of 500 King County and City of Seattle employees who left their jobs, families, and lives to serve our country.
It’s fitting that we gathered in the rain on a day remembering a gruesome war often waged in muddy trenches. In the face of danger and discomfort, far away from home, our troops fought for our country and for freedom.
King County will never forget that sacrifice, and these plaques serve as a physical reminder of that commitment.
It's been an honor to work with the community on this important recognition of both our region's history and the lives of our predecessors here at King County. Please take a moment today to remember the service of these 500 employees of King County and City of Seattle government as well as all who have served our country.
