E Newsletter- Your Update on What's Happening at the King County Council

As 2016 draws to a close, I wanted to give you a snapshot of what I have been doing as your County Councilmember over the past year. Working with my colleagues on the Council and engaged residents throughout District 9, I was able to work to increase public safety, support our veterans, and celebrate our communities.

In 2016 the VFW Post Hall 1049 recieved $2,500 from the King County Mid-Biennial Budget to remodel their facilities. Councilmember Dunn advocated for the funds to be set aside for the remodel of this widely used Community Center.

Some of my proudest accomplishments this year had to do with continued efforts to support King County Veterans. During the 2017-2018 Budget process I made sure King County's Veteran Fellowship program, which I sponsored legislation to create, had the funds it needed to continue to help veterans become employment-ready while transitioning from active duty to civilian life. Additionally, the new King County Incarcerated Veterans program, which I also sponsored legislation to create, showed early signs of success. KING5 News did a piece on the program's success in substantially reducing the number of veterans who return to custody.

Throughout this year I have had the chance to hear from and work with many of you on issues with short and long term impacts on communities in District 9. Working together with concerned residents I was able to work with my colleagues to increase marijuana zoning restrictions, push back on proposed on site septic fees, and install additional ballot drop boxes to increase voter turn out. More than half the ballots returned in November's general election were returned in a ballot drop box. These victories would not have been possible without your participation and voice.
