King County resources to prepare you for ice or snow

Winter weather has returned to King County! This winter, make sure to take advantage of the many resources King County has to offer if you drive on county maintained roads. Resources include road alerts and snow routes that can help prevent accidents in adverse weather.
Recently, I worked with my colleagues on the Council to secure funding for the construction of covered sheds to store materials used to combat poor road conditions. The sheds supply road crews with sand and salt to distribute on roads made unsafe by snow or ice. Covering the sheds prevents the sand from freezing which cuts down on turn around time for road crews.
These sheds are located around the county including Diamond Pit (near Auburn/Black Diamond area), Krain Pit (north of the City of Enumclaw), and the Renton Maintenance Complex (Renton). These sites reduce travel time for road crews, increase the number of roads that can be treated during storms, and protect critical maintenance equipment for winter snow and ice events. Going forward, I’m committed to finding creative solutions within our limited budget to provide for those who rely on our King County Roads.
