South Sammamish Segment A closing for construction

We will be closing the East Lake Sammamish Trail (ELST) from SE 43rd Way to SE 33rd Street starting in mid-December as crews work to pave and widen this segment of the trail.

Closing the trail in the construction zone allows crews the opportunity to safely conduct multiple activities at the same time and hastens completion of the project. For your safety and the safety of our construction crews, we will clearly mark the construction zone with orange fencing, signs, and barricades. A King County Sheriff's Deputy will be on site during construction. We anticipate that this segment will be closed for approximately one year.

How will the trail be improved?

• 12-foot-wide paved path with two-foot soft surface shoulders on each side
• Enhanced intersections, clear sight lines, improved drainage, and improved wildlife habitat
• Greater accessibility and safety for all trail visitors

Thank you for your patience during construction. Once developed, the ELST will complete the missing link in a 44-mile regional trail extending from Puget Sound in Ballard to the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.

What to expect during construction

• Increased activity and noise from construction crews, trucks, and equipment traffic along the trail corridor.
• Access to private properties will be maintained. King County will notify property owners when working near driveways.
• The contractor will provide flaggers to ensure trail neighbors can safely cross the trail to access homes, recreational properties, and businesses.
• Adjacent property owners are encouraged to remove as soon as possible any landscaping, fencing, or other items that are within the King County right-of-way and conflict with trail construction. Any remaining items that conflict with trail construction will be removed and disposed of by the contractor.
• The contractor will use construction best management practices to control dust, but some dust should be expected.
• Contractor work hours
• Weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• No work on Sundays
