This week I was very honored to be able to attend a memorial remembering the lives of 278 of our fellow King County residents at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the City of Renton.
Since 1993, when a person dies in King County without family or loved ones to lay them to rest, the King County Medical Examiner's Office works to honor their memory as part of a unique program. Every two years the King County Indigent Remains Program hosts a memorial service for individuals whose families either can't afford to properly provide for their remains or who simply do not have family members that can be contacted.
I joined the Medical Examiner's Office, local faith leaders, and members of the community in a touching ceremony honoring the lives of those who died and commemorating a plaque etched with the phrase "Gone but not Forgotten."

King County Budget- Challenges and Opportunities to share your voice.
King County operates on a two-year budget cycle. That means every two years we as a county government work together to plan for future funding. In his proposed budget, the County Executive has proposed a number of cuts to important services. Some of the proposed cuts would impact the King County Sheriff's Air and Rescue Unit, the Prosecuting Attorney's Office, and the King County Sheriff's Marine Unit. As we move forward in the budget process, my colleagues and I on the County Council will work hard to avoid cuts to these vital services during this challenging budget cycle.
The King County Budget Committee is hosting two more special meetings so that we as a council may hear from you about your budget priorities. Both meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, October 13 – Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th St
Tuesday, October 18 – Kent—Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center, Courtroom 3F, 401 Fourth Avenue N
If you are unable to attend, you can watch the proceedings on King County TV or online. For more information on the county budget click here.
