Pianos in the Parks
is back again! Until Aug. 17, 22 pianos are ready to be played in parks and
open spaces throughout King County. The pianos have been donated and tuned by
Classic Pianos and decorated (painted, bedazzled etc.) by talented artists,
faculty and friends at the Gage Academy of Art. King County Parks is a proud
partner and is hosting pianos at Marymoor
Park, Steve
Cox Memorial Park and on the Sammamish River Trail. Submit a video of your
musical endeavors for a chance to perform at the KEXP and Seattle Center’s Concerts at the Mural on Aug. 21. Check out a video
submission from Marymoor Park and vote for your favorite
performances.

Hispanic Community Festival: On Aug. 8 and 9 there is a
new Hispanic Community Festival taking place at Steve
Cox Memorial Park. There will be information about dentists, lawyers,
insurance options and healthy nutrition habits. Artists such as Mi Amigo
Miguelito, Alex Rodriguez, Unción
Sierrena and Verónica Leal will be performing
throughout the weekend. This free event is a celebration of the White Center
community so bring your friends and family and like the event on Facebook.
Movie Under the Stars: At Steve
Cox Memorial Park on Aug. 22 there will be a free showing of El Padrecito
(The Good Priest) for the first ever Movie Under the Stars event. The movie
will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. The event opens at 6 p.m. and
the movie starts at 8:30 p.m. There will be food trucks, music, games and
informational tables about transportation, health and immigration services. Like

Promise Celebration: The 5th Annual White Center
Back-to-School Promise Celebration will take place on Aug. 28 from 4-7 p.m.
at Greenbridge
Plaza. Free backpacks will be given to children grades K-8. Teens grades
9-12 will be given school supplies. Live entertainment, free food, prizes and a
basketball tournament are some of the activities to enjoy throughout the
evening. The White Center Promise
is an initiative aimed at eliminating barriers to equity by providing resources
for physical, social and economic improvements. King County Parks will be there
to provide local residents with information about our trails, events and
parks. Pre-register online
by Aug. 26 to secure your spot.
 - Volunteers provide roughly 59,000 hours of service
every year.
- Volunteers contributed more than 20,000 hours to help build and complete the features at Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park.
- In 2014, more than 8,500 trees and 10,250 shrubs were planted at 16 different areas in King County Parks by volunteers.
