Keep yourself safe this summer by taking extra precautions while recreating in water. Rivers can be especially dangerous because they pose threats such as logs, rocks and swift flows. Visit Public Health - Seattle & King County's river safety page for more information and check out the "Out of the Box" children's e-zine for kid-friendly water safety tips and games online or at your nearest library.

A 2.6 mile segment of the East Lake Sammamish Trail has been redeveloped and is now open to the public! The
trail provides great views of the foothills, offers access to public land and serves as a commuter trail for many King County residents. Eventually
the full 11-mile-length of the East Lake Sammamish Trail will be paved with a soft surface shoulder, and connect the
520 and Sammamish River/Burke-Gilman trails to Issaquah and the Mountains to
Sound Greenway. Check out our blog

Meet Marta the River Otter, the newest King County Parks mascot. She can be spotted playing in many King County rivers. Marta is a fantastic swimmer thanks to her long, streamlined body, short legs, webbed toes and nostrils that can close underwater. Even though she is an excellent swimmer, Marta likes to wear a life jacket so that she can be extra safe. Welcome Marta!
