Over 22% of the City of Kent’s land is zoned for industrial and warehousing activities that don’t generate revenue for the City because of State sales tax sourcing laws.
Kent companies distribute products around the world, but due to a change in how sales tax revenue is allocated by the State, the City of Kent has been steadily losing revenue.
As a result, Kent residents got the short end of the stick. Meanwhile: the ports, wealthier cities, and State economy benefit. KentWA.gov/SST

Construction is underway at Willis Street and 74th Ave S.
Once the new traffic island and curbing are installed, northbound traffic on 74th Ave S will no longer be able to turn left onto Willis Street (SR 516). Instead, drivers will need to turn right and use the 4th Ave S roundabout to head west.
These improvements will help reduce congestion and improve overall traffic flow at this busy intersection while also preparing for future connections to Naden Ave S.
For more details, visit KentWA.gov/Projects and sign up for traffic alerts at drivekent.com
