Veterans Day

Happy Veterans Day Kent!

I want to thank all of the people in our community, our friends and family and neighbors and loved ones, who have served our country.

I also want to specifically thank Councilmembers Michaud, Boyce and Thomas for their service in our military and their continued service on the Kent City Council.

As always there's lots going on and lots to be a part of around the city. Hope you enjoy this week's update and have a great weekend!

Dana Ralph, Kent Mayor

Yesterday I had the opportunity to cut the ribbon at the grand opening for the new Just Poké location at Kent Station!

They're serving up healthy, custom poké bowls made of sustainably-sourced ingredients. Great to see new business moving in to available retail space downtown.

PSRC TPB

Yesterday I chaired the Puget Sound Regional Council Transportation Policy Board meeting. We discussed a climate change work programs, transportation demand and checked-in on ongoing projects. The board includes representatives of PSRC’s member jurisdictions and regional business, labor, civic and environmental groups.

We're taking action to protect water quality in our lakes, streams and the Puget Sound. Help us decide on our investment priorities to prevent pollution and protect valuable water resources by taking our survey.

anti-icer

When temperatures really drop, we use liquid anti-icer to pretreat roadways when there is a warning of dry, freezing conditions. Our crews distributed anti-icer on to several roadways across the city this week! Learn more online.

The last installment of 2022 for our Race & Equity Speaker Series took place yesterday evening at Green River College. It was a fantastic event and conversation.

Carolyn DeFord of the Puyallup Tribe spoke about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People Crisis and helped our audience understand this issue and what they can do to help.

Audrey Powers Day

Audrey Powers Day

Had a great time celebrating Audrey Powers Day in Kent at Martin Sortun Elementary School yesterday with Audrey herself alongside students, teachers and Blue Origin's Club for the Future!

Last year, I joined Audrey Powers, Blue Origin’s Vice President of New Shepard Mission and Flight Operations, to congratulate her on her suborbital flight on NS-18 and declared November 10 as Audrey Powers Day in the City of Kent!

Audrey is as an engineer and lawyer with more than two decades of experience in the aerospace industry.

As the executive sponsor of Blue Origin's New Mercury gender diversity business resource group, she's firmly focused on diversity in STEM.

Her career and flight is a victory for all women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics professions, inspiring confidence in other young girls and women to pursue their passions and continue to close the STEM gap.
